To organise, educate and integrate general Migrant Workers into recognise sustainable democratic international migration trade union organisation in promoting Access to Labour Justice, Safe, Fair, Orderly Regular Labour Migration with Harmonious Industrial Relations between Employers Migrant Workers to ensure Decent Work, Social Justice, Education, Culture Linguistic, Occupational Safety and Health, Gender in Migration, Socio-economic, Human and Labour Rights with Living Wages, Pension and Decent Life.

The MLGWUI was formed on June 2, 2002 and incorporated on November 27, 2013 with the Registrar General's (now Office of the Registrar of Companies) and Labour Department under the Ministry of Labour accordingly under the laws of Ghana.
MLGWUI is a democratic labour migration trade union organisation representing all categories of Migrant Workers who are employed or engaged or expect to work in Africa and Diaspora in Labour Migration.
Any Migrant Workers, Returnee, Migrant Entrepreneur, Refugees and/or Potential Migrant who works permanently, temporarily, casually or seasonally can join MLGWUI. Membership consists of:
All immigrant workers in various sectors
Including live-in and hourly workers
Commercial and enterprise-based workers
Professional and office workers
Student workers and trainees
Retired migrant workers
Membership is open regardless of colour, creed, nationality or political affiliation for workers in Africa and Diaspora engaged or employed in private and informal sectors.
Labour migration capacity building, business-financial education, and orientation training for potential and returning migrants.
Legal assistance, representation at Labour Commission, and advice on immigration and employment matters.
Facilitating rescue and safe return of victimized migrant workers with assisted flight tickets and airport reception.
Job vacancy advertisements, employment fairs, and employer-job seeker connections.
Psycho-social counselling for returnees, trauma support, and reintegration assistance.
Assistance in claiming unpaid wages and negotiating fair compensation.
Short-term accommodation, business grants, equipment support for returnees.
Migration research, data collection on trafficking, unfair recruitment practices.
Monthly bulletin, news on migrant workers, labour migration updates.

MLGWUI has fraternal relations with trade union and migratory organisations in Africa and Diaspora including Cuba, Finland, South Africa, Asia, Europe, among other countries as well as stakeholders of public institutions.
